'Binary Transition'- Public Sculpture

A Developer's Percent for Public Art Project

Artist’s concept

Knutsford Development: Public Artwork: “Binary Transition,”

Artist’s concept:

The concept underlying this artwork simply captures a visual metaphor for that instantaneous moment in time, when a quantum particle ( an electron), tunnels through the silicon substrate of a computer chip, carrying binary information to a higher energy state.

The shapes and forms of the sculpture are symbolic of this surging ‘transition’ between states and also refer to the curving front elevation of the building

It is designed to pick up on the existing colour palette of the architecture, to further integrate the sculpture into the proposed site.

The sculpture also refers to the transition from old to new of the site redevelopment, as well as being themed to the contemporary concept of the ‘intelligent building’ that we hear so much about today.

The sculpture is shaped and formed in 20mm plate steel, rust-proofed and finished in 2-pack industrial grade polyurethane paint, to the selected colour.
